The Vision
“The world is as you dream it,” say the Shuar shaman’s of Ecuador. The vision for The Baja Sun focuses on the beauty and the power of this planet and the people who are awakening to this beauty here in Baja. There is no greater news story unfolding at this time than the awakening call to higher consciousness. The idea came in a flash of inspiration that had nothing to do with the mind’s structured thinking. It simply showed the totality of this project, and it was left up to me to respond. As I have spoken to people, they all have said the time has come for a newspaper reporting what has gone unnoticed by mainstream media.
Those of us who live here on the Baja peninsula or come for retreat and vacation have felt the power of the Baja. It is often deeply spiritual in nature and has nothing to do with the usual past time of the tourist. This is the way of the traveler. Many people have found their path, and their spiritual teachers, while others may still be searching for answers outside themselves. But all paths lead to the One. We may be feeling filled and contented with our spiritual lives or we may be experiencing a yearning we can’t define. It will not go away by the use of any ordinary or grand distractions. We may have been on a spiritual search for decades or we might have just opened our first book or seen our first video that impacted our way of thinking and feeling. Whatever the path, no matter the length of time, or by whatever teaching, we are being called to a new way of life. It is a heart centered life, where we see that we must treat everything with a new kindness, compassion and respect. It is my belief that we are not to leave this planet in some grand “evacuation,” leaving behind the mess we have created. But instead we begin to perceive the profound gift found in all things, especially our own hearts, and in this moment we will find it exactly where we are.
There is a definite purpose in using a journalistic style to report these stories of awakening in Baja California. Good journalism, which we are no longer seeing anywhere in the world, reports the truth from a reporter’s observation. This keeps and maintains the reporting in a well grounded sense of being. It is the intension of this paper to support and inspire those who are hungry for something that has not yet made itself know, or to share with others if we have. Interestingly enough, this will come from you, the readers. In the desire to connect with people of spirit, insight and wisdom, we energetically meet one another. If we are feeling isolated in a hidden cove on the Gulf of California or feeling alone in a plush gated community, we have this opportunity be part of an energetic web of support.
It is being suggested by many teachers and teachings that this will be important in the future. We are here to serve one another, and as we do so, we ground our love, our passion, our creativity in a real world way. We bring spiritual presence to all that we do, whether it is an artistic pursuit, saving the whales or sharing our personal stories of awakening. All this is done in love and dreaming a new world. From Los Cabos to Tijuana, we are all one in our desire to know true peace, and to create our lives in a heart opening way. This is the true news for the 21st century.
